DiscVision presents hybrid DVB-C receivers and a smartphone app for remote access to PVR

Introduction

DiscVision presented at the ANGA Cable 2011 from May 3 to 5 a new hybrid DVB-C system that integrates HbbTV support, a variety of interactive web services, and the innovative watchmi personal TV service from Axel Springer. With the connectTV technology from DiscVision, the PVR functions of the system can be controlled remotely via a mobile app. The products of the eviado series are provided by MAX Technologies GmbH for the retail market.

eviado: High-performance hybrid set-top boxes

The eviado product range offers cost-effective, high-performance solutions for:

  • Satellite, cable, and terrestrial reception

  • Internet-based audio and video transmission

The hybrid systems seamlessly combine DVB and IP transmissions and provide access to a variety of new services from broadcasters through an integrated HbbTV stack. The offering is complemented by an integrated web portal, provided by NetRange MMH, which offers a wide range of interactive services.

Integration of watchmi and award-winning technology

Like the satellite receiver system, the cable receiver also integrates the watchmi service from Axel Springer AG. This technology is based on solutions from APRICO, a subsidiary of Philips, and was first integrated into digital receivers by DiscVision.

Control via smartphone app

The system presented at ANGA can be configured with an innovative smartphone app based on web technologies. This app works on all smartphones and enables:

  • Scheduling recordings

  • Control of the entire PVR system

  • Remote maintenance by the system provider

Cooperation with leading technology partners

The solution presented was developed in collaboration with leading partners, including:

  • MAX Technologies GmbH

  • GkWare

  • MMH NetRange GmbH

  • Axel Springer Digital TV Guide GmbH

  • APRICO

  • Opera

DiscVision, as a software and hardware developer, took over the integration and provision of the entire software stack.
