DiscVision presents Alexa Voice Service integrated into digital receivers
Voice assistants are gaining more and more attention worldwide. By 2022, about 55% of all U.S. households will have installed voice assistant devices – whether on speakers, digital receivers, connected TVs, cars, or wearables. By then, more than 175 million devices will have been installed. While today most devices with voice assistants are speakers, there is a clear trend that this technology is increasingly integrated into other devices (Juniper Research 2018).
White-Label STB Control Skill
In addition to AVS integration, DiscVision offers a white-label skill for controlling set-top boxes (STB). This skill allows users to operate functions such as channel switching, EPG search, recording scheduling, live TV control, and trick modes through a simple voice interface. The skill implements a real dialog-based user interface (UI) that gives users voice feedback while displaying graphical information on the TV screen.
Integration and Software Development Kit (SDK)
DiscVision has been a leading design and research company in the STB industry for over 15 years, providing integration services for STB manufacturers. With a user-friendly SDK, it is very easy to integrate the white-label STB control skill into any STB that runs on either Linux or other RTOS platforms.
For integrating the Alexa Voice Service, DiscVision offers a second SDK that allows such services to be implemented on all types of Linux platforms. In both cases – AVS integration and skill integration – no access to the STB software is required by the DiscVision engineers. Especially for AVS integration, a pre-compiled library is provided, which can be integrated by the STB manufacturer itself.
New Android OSP DVB-X Solutions
In addition to voice-controlled devices, DiscVision presents novel STB solutions at ANGACOM, such as a new Android OSP DVB-X receiver that uses an innovative and highly customizable launcher engine based on the Android TIF platform.
